I was showing the open hole at the shoreline. The machines zip by, but there is open water where it is starting to thaw. As the wind blows across the ice, it pushes the ice up and down. The lake water, which remains at a constant 4˚ C. (0˚ = 32˚ F.), gets forced up and out the hole as the ice surface undulates. It is rather bizarre looking.
